CEGO custom shirt - official affiliate thread

Hi All,

Shirtmaven AKA as Carl Goldberg of CEGO custom shirt, is a longstanding member of styleforum contributor (in fact, he provided the pocket squares for my wedding back in... 2005.) He is debuting his new online store:

www.cego.com/store/

on which he offers a selection of hankerchiefs, pocket squares, and his famous boxer shorts ( some are being produced under the "Do Not Starch" label.) BTW, these boxers will soon be offered out to stores on a wholesale basis as well. (Carl says to feel free to inquire if you have a store front.) Of course, assorted sample shirts are also available for sale, most of which are slim fit, with a super slim fit to be introduced.

Carl will also be offering a "Custom service" based off of sample shirts. This program will not be your usual online MTM service. Instead, you will be sent a sample shirt to try with a packet of fabric swatches. The program is not quite ready, so forum members will get to be beta testers.

Of course, all products offered on the website are made in the USA.

There is a discount code: "cegosf" will get forum members a 15% discount on online orders only.

Cheers,

Fok.

Is it possible to place an order for shirts one time and then order future orders over the phone or does one have to be present in person to place an order?

Are you refering to having shirts made?
If you come in the first time, I do prefer to see the customer again in person to evaluate the fit.

after that, I can alwasy send swatches if you are out of town and do not get in that often.

If you were to buy one of the RTW shirts we can always base measurements off of those.
this will actually be the basis for the way to make shirts for customers who can not make it to NYC.

Carl, The MTO program sounds great - you send out a shirt and then we say what needs changing and pick fabrics? Awesome for people that live in Australia, such as myself. Looking forward to it!

I recently bought some interesting pieces of white oxford cloth.

the first is your basic oxford produced in the orient. this is the same fabric used by most of the custom shirtmakers, brooks brothers, J. Press, even Thom Brown and Band of outsiders.
It makes up well. and launders well.

the second was made in Italy by Albini, under the Thomas Mason heading.
this has a much better feel and is a bit more substanial. The Italian version runs about 4-5 times the price of the Asian oxford. At retail it might end up costing almost $100-200 more.
In my case only about $65 more for instock designs

the most interesting of the new oxford cloths is some fabric that was sitting in a warehouse for quite some time.

I have about 120 yards of Oxford cloth produced in the USA. It is a bit lighter weight then the other two, but the hand is much softer. I would assume that it is a pima cotton. I am not sure which mill it was woven by.
Unfortuately the white is a bit aged and is not bright white. I will try to wash some with some oxyclean and see how it turns out.

I also bought from the same warehouse fabric that is 25-40 years old that was woven in England. there is some real Sea Island Cotton in the batch.
the fabric is great. natural finishing. not finished with chemicals, so there is no slickness found on current high count fabrics. the only drawback is that the fabric is narrow. 36" and even 32" my factory in NJ will not cut this fabric. so a lot of it may end up as boxer shorts.
the tickets on the fabric is all very intersting

Hmm...very interested in this. Could you make casual, Band of Outsiders-esque shirts? I like BoO's general detailing (sewn-down box pleat, back darts, substantial placket, MoP buttons), but find that their small is not long enough for me. I'd be ecstatic if a Cego shirt fit me same way, but were slightly longer.

Also, do you have any student discount available, or just the SF discount?

Thanks!

I have a pattern for a very slim shirt the band small is extremely small that is a an x-small in my scale. Yes, I can make a longer shirt
I would not copy the stiched down box pleat. first, that is Scott's signature detail, second I think it is a really stupid detail.
just the SF discount.
